How do you pronounce Cthulu?

I've always said it "kuh-THOO-loo" but a friend of mine says it "CUT-a-loo." Who's right? Is there a definite way to pronounce it, or does one need a non-human throat?

I think it is one of the non human throat dealies, but I usually try closer to your way. Although with more of a guttural "k" sound at the beginning.

I pronounce it the same way you do because it's very close in spelling to the only Gaelic word I know and I'm following the pronunciation of that. We had someone in our office a long time ago who used to pronounce it the same way, so I never questioned if it was correct or not.

Now I'm wondering what kind of job you had/have, that you ended up knowing how they pronounced Cthulu. I mean, people have random side conversations at any job, but still.

Take this and compress it into 20 syllables, then further compress it down to three in the same way that my neighbors can fit at least 8 different vowel sounds into a word like "ham."

I've always said 'thu-loo' with the C silent, as in fox.
