The scene in Spirited Away where the parents pig out (heh) is both disgusting because of the transformation and enrapturing because of how good the food looks.

That transformation scene/ attempted escape scene gave me chills (and still does) when I saw it.

It's mostly fantasy food. We had a discussion about it in /ck/ once. The food is kind of implausible - the chicken has soft bones, there's that jellyfishy thing that isn't like any real food, etc.

food always looks soooo good in Miyazaki films. Actually looking at this secret made me think of the breakfast scene in Howl's Moving Castle and I had to go get some cheese and bread for a snack :P

Before I watch a Miyazaki film I have to be sure I have quick access to a Japanese restaurant, or at least a ramen noodle packet with add-on ingredients at hand! I LOVE the food in those.

Ahahaha, I love those scenes. Whenever I watch a Miyazaki film, I like to think that the people who drew it are going nuts and illustrating their dream meals.
