I hated the movie version of Rogue. Poor casting and poor writing. And I say this as a fan of Anna Paquin.

[personal profile] sugar_spun 2013-03-08 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I think the casting was almost universally poor, and when it wasn't, the out of characterness ruined it anyway. The biggest exception being Patrick Stewart, who is completely perfect as Professor X.

And, yeah, Sir Ian, but I honestly feel that, while he is of course an amazing actor and did well with the role he was given, he isn't exactly much like comic book Magneto. I don't mind that, actually, and I don't mind that sometimes the movies can choose to make someone a different kind of character, so I think he worked.

Hugh Jackman pulled through, even if he really looks nothing like the guy.

Really didn't like her as Rogue, like her as Sookie. Some of her reactions are priceless with that adorable big ol' muppet mouth she has.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite - hate her as Sookie, love her as Rogue

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
She has a polarizing effect, perhaps.

Same here. I never read the comics so I have no idea was Rogue was "supposed" to be like.

I agree. What a lame Rogue.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
personally i liked her character a lot. but i've also never read the comics, so i'm going off no context.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
That probably helped a lot. If it were an original character for the movie I might have liked her.

I like comic Rogue (sometimes. sometimes she's too much of an ass for me to like her), but I adored movie Rogue.

Doesn't help that I ship her with movie!Logan like burning.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
I am exactly the same way! I didn't start reading the comics until after I saw the movies, though. I've always thought that probably colored my perception of the character.

The young teenage girl character is something logan has perpetually following him. It just happened to be Rogue this time. Of course she was shipped. Logan x Little girl is the best!

I prefered Jubilee cause that was the era I got into the X-Men

Good lord part of my childhood just imploded with that pic!!

I bet we got into X-men about the same time around the early 90's late 80's :) heh... I shipped Wolvie/Jean though all the way <3 fuck cyclops!

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
I usually don't rant about her because I'm too busy ranting about how horrible Storm was in the movies, but yeah she was not a good Rogue.

I mean she didn't particularly bother me that much but I'd really prefer we have a Rogue with more personality. The movie universe is different and I'm okay with that, but certain characters could have been a lot stronger and Rogue is for sure one.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, Halle Berry as Storm - I so wanted Angela Bassett to get that role. She would have kicked ass.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
nayrt - I'm not so sure. I'd have thought Halle Berry would have kicked ass. My disappointment with Storm in the movie verse has always been more to do with the writing and costuming than the acting.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh I hated movie mopey Rogue. I grew up with 90s cartoon fun loving calling everybody "Sugah" Rogue and this just sucked.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
I had way more issues with Bobby's characterization, but yeah Rogue had problems too. I still like both characters though

I think I was okay with her when I saw the movies years ago, but my dislike of Anna Paquin's Sookie has kind of carried over to Rogue as well. My favorite version of Rogue is the one from the 90's animated series.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've never read the comics, so I just didn't really care about her. I just assumed she was meant to be the sort of blank younger character that the teenage audience was meant to relate to as she/we are introduced to the world and characters.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 07:12 am (UTC)(link)
I enjoyed her in the first movie, but totally hated the second and third. She wasn't kickass at all. :/ But then again, I tend to dislike stories that are mostly about Jean Grey.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-08 07:14 am (UTC)(link)
I agree. I didn't read the comics until after I saw the movies, but even then I compared her to the 90's cartoon Rogue and was left unsatisfied.
cloud_riven: Cute cigarrette box and coffee cup, with smiley faces, holding hands! Adorable! (bff)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2013-03-08 08:04 am (UTC)(link)
Ha my little sister vehemently dislikes Paquin as Rogue. She'll complain forever about overacting and exaggerated facial expressions that do not compute in real life.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-09 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
I had problems with movie-version Rogue, but none of them have anything to do with the acting. Every different version of the X-Men seems to have an entirely different version of Rogue's backstory, and it takes an extra effort to like some versions of Rogue when you're super-attached to others. The movie-version Rogue hasn't fully absorbed any personalities, nor has she spent extensive time with Mystique, and that really changes the characterization. So blame whatever decisions were made that cut out all of that, not Anna Paquin, who did well with the script.
