Harry/Ron is disturbingly rare given that they're two male main characters and BEST FRIENDS, HELLO?

I know! When I first got into HP fandom, it was already a huge monolith, and I came into it expecting to find a ton of Harry/Ron and was super surprised to find that the two biggest m/m pairings are Harry/Draco and Harry/Snape. Not that I have anything against those pairings, I was just a bit surprised.

James/Sirius (why is this rare?)

IKR? I'm still convinced Sirius wanted James' dick and would have loved to be part of a threesome with Lily and James. Sirius was just a little too wrapped up with James, and he gives off bisexual vibes.

I never really got Sirius/Remus. I thought Sirius/James and Remus/Peter were the more obvious pairings. My head canon is that James was pretty much straight but wouldn't say no to a quick roll in the hay with a good friend, while Sirius was genuinely in love. And I agree on the bisexual vibes.

Yeah, Sirius definitely had a thing for James, with all the "'James was amazing, Harry'" and "James was the only one Sirius would have changed his behaviour for" going on.

HOW IS JAMES/SIRIUS RARE. I seriously don't understand it. I mean...look at them! Sirius was like, completely head-over-heels devoted to James. James not only trusted him with his, Lily's and Harry's lives, he even trusted Peter with them on Sirius' word. Sirius went on a murderous rampage of despair and then dissolved into insane laughter with grief after James died and Peter escaped. AND almost killed Peter again in revenge. And don't get me started on that gut-wrenching scene in the shack at the first climax of PoA. Or what Sirius' entire relationship with Harry says about them.

I mean, I personally don't ship it (I prefer them as BFFs unless it's a James/Lily/Sirius OT3), but why on earth don't the loads of people who are generally a sucker for that kind of dynamic ship it??

The only explanation I've got is that James is massively unpopular. We practically never see him in person outside of Snape's memory, and even though Sirius was a dick there as well, he has a personalty beyond that. James has that one scene, and while we're told that he changed, we never see it. I suppose it makes it hard to get invested in the character, especially if you do like Snape. I ... like my head canon James. :)

But...that's not really true from what I've seen. He isn't massively unpopular, he's only unpopular in certain circles. I've read an embarrassingly huge quantity of Marauders-fic, all with loads of pleasingly complex, likably-characterized-yet-canon-compliant James, but he's just never shipped with Sirius for some reason. He's always mooning over Lily, often while Sirius and Remus are the ones fooling around (usually with extremely unsatisfactorily-developed motivation too -- I have nothing against the ship at all, but fic writers tend to treat it as a canon pairing that needs no convincing, and I'm like "...no? Not seeing it? Explain it to me please?")

Hm, true. I just remembered a lot of hatred for James from my HP fandom days.

And I agree completely wrt Sirius and Remus. I need some sort of development to buy it, because I really don't see it in the books.

Harry/Ron/Hermione is, hands down, THE best solution for ship wars. I do like Hermione/Ron (and Harry/Ron), but that OT3 is just... yes <3

Also, Rose/Martha is amazing.

Especially since they've been through so much together.

I mean, strictly speaking, the epilogue doesn't rule out the possibility that Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Ginny all live together in a free love hippie colony.

Heh, that's my secret headcanon. The couples we see in the epilogue are just for appearance, but it's really just a big OT4. (Er, minus any Ginny/Ron.)
