You should really watch the original, non-dubbed show. It's very different and fabulous. Yes, Michiru is Neptune (Michelle? Not up on the NA names--I never watched the dub past season 2, iirc) and Haruka is Uranus.

iirc, in the dub they were "close" cousins, but in the original show they were lesbian lovers and it was/is very close to actual text and not just subtext. Naoki even said so in an interview that they were canon. They had lines like, "Michiru, I told you I don't want to hear that kind of talk out of bed!", after M. teased H. about gaining weight after grabbing her and hauling her up after H fell off a cliff? building? And holding hands (heck in one ep, for Valentine's Day (or something like it) the ep had a contest for couples where one hid and stuck their hand out and their partner had to guess which hand was their partner's (Haruka quickly and clearly identified Michiru's hand and said it way too easy)), addressing each other w/o any of the suffixes (-chan, -san, etc.) at end of their names (that implies a very close intimacy in Japanese culture; mainly husbands and wives that are very, very close to each other was the way it was explained to me). Haruka gets jealous when Michiru flirts w/others, esp. Seiya, etc.

Yeah, it was "Michelle" and "Amara" iirc, and the one thing my tween self absolutely picked up on was that they were lesbians... albeit incestuous lesbians thanks to the poor editing choices on the dub. I've always meant to watch the original. After years of watching other anime, I'm certainly used to subs and I'm sure all the cultural stuff would make more sense now. I mean, hell, when I watched the dub as a kid I didn't even get that they were supposed to be Japanese. XD

Yeah, people who watched it either picked up on it or defended that they were cousins! The wank was hilarious at the time (and still is). I just remember being so stunned and startled by the original and the dialogue that they went there so obviously in a little kids show. I thought it was so very awesome of them to do that!

Rini (the pink-haired child) was actually likeable! Mars wasn't a huge ass! And so one. I will always thank SM for getting me back into anime. I'm not even sure they dubbed the last season b/c it would've involved too much footage being left out due to unacceptable footage/story lines. Gotta love the Starlights.

Ahah, I remember before that season came out I was like "There's going to be lesbians in the new Sailor Moon!" and I was super excited.

And then they were cousins and all my friends made fun of me for being wrong. =(

+1 to suggesting to watch the original anime. I never even got to S in the dub because I started watch the original show, and it's really a different story all together, the original needs to be watched by all.

I watched them both dubbed in the past couple years. S and SuperS, I mean.

I wouldn't even watch them when they first aired, I hated them so much. But I figured I should watch them at least once...
