Yeah, I can see it. Lighting doesn't help much in that cap though, so I'd be hesitant to say if she's really that light.

But I can see where you're coming from. I'd like to argue that complaining she's not dark enough is near or just as problematic as a racial issue, but considering the gaming industry is a medium that panders to fair skin coloring, it is suspect.

Sorry for rambling. I just find it interesting to see so much arguing over what constitutes as "too white", which alienates both races other than white as well as mixed races, all the while being valid.

That's why I said inb4.

Problems of race purity aside, that game is sickening enough when you see the interviews the devs are giving about how Nilin (or however they are spelling it) is supposed to be "imperfect" "not supermodel thin" and "real, not overly sexy". ...When she's practically a waif, has nearly perfect features, and the majority of the gameplay trailer has her in a skintight catsuit with the camera zooming in on her tits and crotch every three seconds.

Yeah, way to fucking go guys. That's really showing the games industry how different your female character is.

Wow, they actually said that?! Sounds like they're just trying to draw in a fringe audience while still focusing on the dudebro fanbase.

Man, this has left a bad taste in my mouth. :(

If her face is based on a real mixed race or black woman, then I'm being too cynical. But as I strongly doubt she is, she is a designed character, not a real person. And video games tend to design their "non-white" protagonists as kind of being white anyway. Case in point, the Prince from Prince of Persia or Altair from the first Assassin's Creed.

So my guess is that they wanted to play down anything non-white about her for safety.

Well, quite a few characters use design models based off real characters, but I don't know enough about the game to say that applies here. I would have to say her features do register as black to me though, but looking closer it is rather ambiguous.

Totally agree with you about toning down the blackness, however. In this industry, it's practically a given.
