This is what I got from that video: A random person made a vid with people flailing about that just happened to use the song 'Harlem Shake', because the word "Shake" is in it. People copied the vid because they thought it was funny, and put their own spin on it. I don't think it was ever a joke about the actual dance. Hell, I doubt most of the people making their own 'Harlem Shake' videos even KNEW there was a dance to it.

Just people over-reacting to the internet. Nothing new.
