I remember playing Crystal, and I was so mad when my wooper evolved into that thing with arms.

It's a mix of X/Y and the vdex clickables I see here that make me want to get back into Pokemon though.

Go for it, OP! If you're interested in it and a newcomer, I'd recommend the main series games. All of ones on the DS are great. I have a preference for HeartGold and SoulSilver, which you'd be able to catch a Wooper early on. Black and White were kind of a reboot of the series, though, and just a tad better entry point for newcomers.

(There's also sizable fanbases for the anime, trading cards, and various manga. If that's up your alley.)

Thanks for the suggestions! I think I'll start with Black/White :) I have played Pokemon, but it was Gen 1 way back in the day. So it'll be interesting to see what's changed.

(wooper is one of my favorite pokemon overall and definitely my favorite water-type)

Man, that .gif never fails to make me smile. Wooper is seriously the bestest. I refuse to ever let mine evolve. Sure, Quagsire is way tougher, but I'll take cute over tough any day.

Quagsire is my absolute favorite pokemon, but Wooper has a special place in my heart!! He just wants to love life and everyone!!!!! He's so great. shiny wooper is adorable, too!

Also, yes. Join us. For what it's worth, my first game was HeartGold, and I didn't feel particularly lost. But yeah, BW is a great starting point too - you get a fresh slate region, basically, get introduced to Pokemon from other regions in the post-game part, and in BW2, you can catch them from the start.
