Absolutely THIS! Which is precisely why I refer to him as the "male beard." Misha was brought in at season 4, when everything changed in RL too.
The female beards (including the one the network handpicked for Jared) were on board to deflect from J2's relationship, and the angel from Sam and Dean's.
