So now is or isn't a good a time as any to get into SPN? Do I need to bother just to read Sassy and Dean/Cas.

Your fandom is too nutso for me to consider getting invested because I didn't know or think this was a serious show with good characters I'm sorry \:U/

I haven't seen anything beyond s6, buuuut from what people are saying I'd say you should only watch up to s5 and pretend it ends there.

My advice? Ignore people who tell you to pretend everything after season five never happened. People tend to forget that everyone has a different view on things. I liked season six and seven and eight. I've liked every season. Apparently, according to some fans, that makes me a bad fan. According to them, I'm ''doing it wrong.''

No big, really. I'm going to head into this thing with some low expectations anyways, so maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised enough to withstand the apparent polarization that is post season 5 ♥

I think every season has had awesome arcs, moments, characters and stories. I guess you could watch and decide for yourself or you could go by opinions in the marginal extremes of fandom.

You're missing a lot of fun stuff if you don't watch the show. If Sassy and Dean/Cas stuff is what interests you, though, you may or may not find large parts of Seasons 1-3 terribly appealing. Some people don't. Then again, it does lay the groundwork for what happens in Season 4 and 5, so if you were to start with those you'd likely want to go back and watch the first three at some point anyway. Plus there are a few absolutely brilliant episodes that'd be worth watching all on their own.

And you are sadly correct, the fandom absolutely is nutso...I stick to a relatively small corner and severely limit my exposure to the shipping madness (the secret isn't about shipping at all, it's just Cas.)
