But no one is saying that. What we are saying is that it's extremely problematic that the "bad things" happening to women are almost invariably sexual in nature, thus relegating women as a whole down to their vaginas. Again. This is constant, this is pervasive, it is in every piece of consumable media. And it is a fucking problem.

Christ, are you dense? That isn't what I said. Of course that's a terrible thing. But within the narrative, men escape the confines of violence being singularly sexual. Women do not. Every bit of violence a woman in this series (and in most media) experiences is either explicitly sexual or shown through a sexual filter.

I'm not dense. I just hate that this fandom constantly talks about the sexual violence against the female characters and ALWAYS ignores the sexual violence against men, as if it either didn't happen or just didn't matter. And frankly, I find the fact that thousands of readers think that men getting raped is no big deal or nothing we should talk about problematic as fuck. Because guess what, people do the same thing IRL and think that men either don't get raped or it's not that bad. Your first reply to what I said didn't really have anything to do with what I said in the first place.

I think there's one scene that subverts that in an interesting way, which is in FFC where Brienne's face is mutilated.

That could so easily have been a sexual assaut scene, and instead Brienne was attacked in a way that might equally have happened to any of the male knights.

Thing is - reading that, I felt such a massive relief. Because I'm always on tenterhooks about when rape or the threat of rape is going to spring up again while I'm reading about the female characters I love. It's that pervasive constant dread all of the time - (and not just in ASoIaF/GoT) - that's most exhausting, I find. Am I going to be able to lose myself in the storytelling and peril of adventure in this chapter, or is that stupid threat of rape going to come in and cock its leg all over everything again?
