I love that picture. Does anyone know the original artist? By the time I came across it it had been reposted a bazillion times.

Found it! It's by syncaidia, here's their deviantart account: http://uzalen.deviantart.com/

Is that the stinky cheese man running on top of the bookshelf? :) I love this art.

I don't think that's really so weird. People look to fandom all the time for inspiration or to pull themselves through hard or difficult times or situations, you just do it a bit more eclectically than others.

That is a wonderful picture, OP. I gotta say, I don't understand your secret though. What do crossovers have to do with anger?

OP

Well, if a person -particularly a close friend or family member- is angry at me or is scolding me for this and that, my mind literally disengages. I can still hear what they will be saying, by I won't necessarily listen. The thing is, it's almost automatic to my brain and no matter how many times have I tried , I just can't "turn it off". My mind almost immediately goes blank and switches to music and thinking of crossovers whenever I'm being scolded.

It's kinda weird, and I don't think I could ever explain just how it happens or how it feels.

I've tried talking to my parents about it a few months back. They don't believe me. In fact, it actually made them angry (as expected) to learn that nothing they say sticks to my mind (it kinda does, but it kinda doesn't. An angry parent rambling off to unheard carnival music and crossover imaginations that you only think to yourself kinda dampens the impact of an angry parent).

Sounds like a defense mechanism -- a unusual one, certainly, but whatever works. As long as you retain what people are saying to you on some level for later processing (if they're angry about something legitimate that requires you to do/not-do something), I don't see the harm.

I kinda do the same thing, OP.

It's more like I'm trying to protect myself from feeling hurt, so I think of other things.

That seems really random, but okay?

Hey OP, I sorta get where you're coming from. If I'm stressed out (or honestly just bored) I often escape into hypothetical crossovers. I love thinking of how a character from Source A would interact with one from Source B, etc.

It's not just when someone's angry with me, but I absolutely know what you're talking about. It's cool to know someone else does it.

I don't even enjoy most of the fandoms represented in this art, but it still gives me the warm-n-fuzzies :3
