Sometimes I feel that way about my resistance to hashtags.

Dawww, an IPS secret!

I have no idea what happened with that series finale, but I was gobsmacked, anon. Especially with all the teasers that hinted at something else happening. I remember reading an article from the producer(s?)/writer(s?) saying how much they liked the ending and how much the fans would like it, too, but I've yet to talk to anyone who loved the series who did like the finale.

I liked it with the sole exception of Brandi daring to show her face again, but then I had hated her since she bailed on her wedding.

Huh. I adored that show to pieces, and maybe I was distracted because the worst thing about the finale was that it WAS the finale, but it didn't seem that bad to me.

Stan leaving sucked, but at least we knew most of the team would still be staying together in the same place, and his departure provided the frame for the goodbye scenes. (And yes, Mary saying 'Don't say farewell' got me sniffly, dammit.)

Never liked Brandi, but she was a major enough character that her coming back for a final turn wasn't surprising.

And I'd been semi-afraid they'd do a 180 and have Mary and Marshall get together in the end, and they simply hadn't provided enough foundation for that from her perspective, so I was glad that didn't happen.

The only thing I hated was the handling of the adoption story arc because it's pretty much fucking blasphemy on TV to actually have the kid be adopted. and don't get me started on the therapist or whoever she was implying women that age can't have accidents.

But that wasn't the FINALE.

People who think you don't use enough memes or slang terms when you write (and let it affect how they treat you) are probably not people whose opinions you need to care about anyway. It's none of their business how you write.

Do you mean in things like fic or in things like forum discussions, by the way? If the latter, I think slang expressions have their place in dialog if the characters would use them, but avoiding memespeak is just doing it right.

She had a ton of influence over the final season. It was a classic case of an actor changing a character to be more like the actor. She had made many comments about how she saw the show going and she made sure that it went that way.

I prefer to pretend the last season doesn't exist.

... I spell out my text messages in full. I also don't tend to use slang, but that's because I always have this horrible suspicion that I'm using it wrongly, so it's safer just not to use it at all.

But I'm possibly not the best example to be taking.

I always have this horrible suspicion that I'm using it wrongly

When I was younger, it seemed like there was a strange conspiracy to make me think that. (Which was particularly funny, as I've always had an especially large vocabulary.)

I've always had a fairly huge vocabulary myself, and I tended to use it (I have distinct memories of being followed around the playground by a jeering crowd asking me to define words for them, because I was the Walking Dictionary). I did sometimes wonder if people kept giving me conflicting explanations for slang out of a sort of revenge for all the words I used that they didn't understand.

In hindsight, I think none of us were doing it on purpose, as such. I just couldn't keep up with the way slang shifted from place to place/person to person/time to time, and they genuinely didn't understand why I had to use six long words where two short ones would have done (for the record, I always feel this need to be precise, and English has a lot of words that mean close to the same thing, but not exactly).

Mostly, I just blink stupidly at people when they use slang I don't get (or innuendo), and they ask me for a translation when I'm getting too long-winded to keep up.

I spell out all text messages, too - made easier by the fact that i can do SMS messaging here on my computer. I told my daughter if she sent me 'lolspeak' or 'textspeak' messages I wouldn't read them, and now she pretty much only ever does that when joking with her friends.

Victory!

I hear you on that, OP. I like to write everything out properly, because I just can't stand writing things like "omg r u srs" or something along those lines. Whether it's on Tumblr or text or forums or whatever, I like to be clear with my words. And if it makes me sound too serious, oh well.
