I just think that Thomas is one of the more complex characters on the show. Plus he's one of the better written ones and he's definitely one of the best-acted characters, imo.

Idk. I think he's a great character.

This exactly. I started watching the first episode right as the duke and Thomas kissed, and I felt so bad for him afterwards. Then I watched the episode from the beginning and a few more that came after and thought to myself "Man, this guy just sucks as a human being." But I still like him. Yes, he's a piece of shit, but he's a wildly entertaining piece of shit.

(Also does anyone have any links to some DA icons?)

I agree on all of this... I don't like Thomas as a human being, sometimes, but he's a great character.

I think that's why he's my second favorite character on the show. He is such a flawed, damaged human being, and the one who suffers most for his flaws is himself. His life sucks about 30% because of the hand he's been dealt (born into service, gay), and 70% because of the stupid, stupid decisions he makes.

I love watching him because he's like a train wreck. Every time he gets an idea, you're just watching for the moment where it all falls apart and makes his life even worse. And half the time (or more in the beginning), you're egging it on because he sure deserves it.

But then they catch you with the sympathy. You can see how badly he just wants out, how much he wants freedom, or at least respect and the power to be his own man. And who working a crappy job for an unappreciative boss doesn't know that feel? He wants love, but knows he'll never get it. He knows most people don't like him much, so convinces himself that everyone hates him and even more, that he doesn't care, until something bad enough happens that it cracks him.

He wants things with the same desperate desire that many people can relate to, but the choices he makes to get those things are always, invariable awful.

He's kind of earned a hug and a friend by the end of season 3, though.

This. I really do love Thomas, so very much.
