Vegetables. Cover 3/4 of your plate in raw, grilled, or steamed vegetables. You'll feel full but still be taking in a lot less calories. I recommend spaghetti squash. They're pretty easy to make and delicious. Try with olive oil, fresh diced garlic, and salt.

Stirfrys with small portions of rice and chicken are easy to make and healthy.

Breakfast: scrambled eggs with salsa. <3
Oven baked frittata. You basically scramble up a couple of eggs, cut up a bunch of veggies like spinach, green bell peppers, tomatoes, onions, whatever you like and dump that into the egg mixture, add pepper or some kind of seasoning and pour into a greased muffin tin and bake for about fifteen minutes at 350. I typically eat two of these.

I also like to make my oatmeal with orange juice instead of water and add dried cranberries, walnuts, and cinnamon. For me this is sweet enough that I don't need to add sugar.

Whole grain toast with almond butter and sliced bananas is another great breakfast.

If you really don't want to give up your pasta try getting rid of heavy sauces or butters and cutting it with veggies so you get fuller faster. I really love cutting up tomatoes, squash, and onions, putting them in an oven dish and pouring Italian dressing over them and sticking them under the broiler until they're baked just right.

Okay. Go with me on this one. I like to grate an onion, a carrot, and shred some spinach (frozen fine), sometimes grated red cabbage or radish, sautee this with a little olive oil and whatever dressing/seasoning I have on hand and then I eat this inside of a lightly fried corn tortilla.

You probably already know this but pay attention to what you drink there are a lot of empty calories in pretty much all the drinks (which usually split their serving sizes into two or three on the nutrition label). If you really like sweet drinks try switching to teas and juices instead of sodas and incrementally thinning them out with water until you adjust to enjoying a lighter flavor.

cloud_riven: Close-up of an open-mouthed piglet! Is it recoiling? Or side-eyeing? Maybe saying, "HEY YOU TWO SHOULD KISS"? Mystery! (eeeeeeehhhhhh)

Dooo it. :D Make sure you add the cranberries and walnuts before it's done cooking completely so they soak up the juicy goodness as well!

OMG me too. What have I been missing? *_* I wonder if other juice works too... I have pomegranate juice with my breakfast but my oatmeal sucks. Combining them may solve this. Thank you!

IDK about pomegranate juice. That sounds interesting!

People always look at me weird when I say oatmeal is my favorite breakfast but my mom always made this or peanut-butter oatmeal or steel-cut oats with peaches, honey, and milk growing up. She also would, on rare occasions, put a couple drops of food-coloring or chocolate chips and peanuts on the bottom of the bowl so I would get a surprise when I stirred my honey into the oatmeal.

Dude. Your mom sounds awesome! And jeez, now I want peaches and honey in my oatmeal too! All that's supposed to be good for your skin, right? How do you prepare steel-cut oats? I've never had anything but instant.

I think it might vary based on brand, there are usually instructions on the back of the package when you buy them. Ours you have one part steel cut oats to two parts water (or milk), add the oats after the water boils and cook for about twenty minutes. My mom also uses the steel cut oats in BBQ meatloaf instead of breadcrumbs or whatever everyone else adds. It is the best meatloaf I've ever had. Like, pop a button on my pants good.

That's a relief. I'm just learning to cook a lot all at once. I waited until my 30s to even bother becoming familiar with the kitchen. I'll be trying these, so thanks!

Your frittata recipe sounds awesome. I don't have a muffin tin - i use aluminum foil muffin cups when i make muffins - how many 'muffins' would, say, two eggs make?

Re: Help losing some weight?

I don't think I've ever only made two at one time and it depends of course on how much veggies you're tossing in but I would guess it's about one egg per medium-sized muffin?

*ahem* If you aren't short on time or being miserly with the calories I do like to sautee the veggies in olive oil first and sometimes I line the tin with a piece of lunchmeat before I pour the eggs & vegetables in for a crsip, meaty crust. :D

Cool, okay. I...despise cooking so i would probably not do any saute-ing because...extra pan to wash, extra effort.

I am a horrible person, i know, i'd rather eat cheese and crackers than make pretty much *anything*. Dang family just won't quit wanting actual meals, though....

Thanks!
