Not today, but a woman in my area wants people to stop using animal idioms.

There are numerous animal idioms, but a few really ruffle her feathers.

No. 1 on her list: "I don't give a rat's (rear end)."

"To refer to an innocent animal's bottom as being so vile that we all ought to, if given the chance, launch said bottom into, say, the whirling blades of an airplane's propellers is just plain unwarranted," she said.

Terrorists would be more fitting of such a fate, according to Perna.

So, when you're about to say "I don't give a rat's... " replace it with "I don't give a bin Laden," Perna suggested.
