Re: Stupid is as stupid does

I mean what do you want here, well cited papers or such? I'm not saying it's a terrible outrageous problem in dire need of solving. Just that it's a thing that does occur with at least middling regularity, and perhaps to keep in mind.
If you wanted to be more specific and serious example you could look at the treatment of people on the autistic spectrum, and the way their behaviour is coded in an unnecessarily ableist fashion.
Re: Stupid is as stupid does
Someone could say "Hey, I've never called someone a slut who wasn't acting slutty" (ignoring the bad implications of the word slut--there's no other quick word for it). The person who was called slutty might disagree entirely, but it could be because they missed the kind of social cues that would preclude people making that kind of opinion about them.
Creepy is like that. It's entirely within the eye of the beholder to determine if a guy is creepy or not, and I've definitely seen girls call guys creepy just for being a bit awkward or simply not being the kind of guy they like.

Re: Stupid is as stupid does
(Anonymous) 2013-03-12 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)"Creepy" is an descriptor for behavior that makes a person feel uncomfortable. "Slutty" is a word that was developed and is used specifically for policing other people's sexuality.
Sure, sometimes people go overboard with the concept of being creepy (or of being a jerk, or an asshole, etc). But my calling you creepy is not anywhere near the same as me calling you a slut, as the latter word's meaning completely revolves around shame and nothing else.
Re: Stupid is as stupid does
And I said:
"(ignoring the bad implications of the word slut--there's no other quick word for it)"
So, since you deliberately disregarded that I already addressed the differences that were important, there's really nothing to say to someone like you.
