Re: Help losing some weight?
(Anonymous) 2013-03-12 02:55 am (UTC)(link)Be honest about the portions. Track it by write it down on your tracker.Use a measuring cup to measure what you're cooking and what you put on the plate to eat. Pick up some cheap sets at the Dollar General or somewhere cheap so if one set is dirty, you'll have a clean set to use.
If that's embarrassing, you can buy measuring spoons that look like serving pieces that are discreet enough that you won't be embarrassed and thus will know how much of what you took out of the bowl. I've not checked out places Bed, Bath, and Beyond, but I bet you can buy some there. I know Weight Watchers stores have them and you can't tell them apart from regular serving pieces (the portion number is very discreetly placed on the handle on the underside, iirc--I didn't buy them. Yet.). And no, you don't have to be a WW member to buy from a store. You can just walk in and buy them.
I also like this site for portion control: http://www.webmd.com/diet/healthtool-portion-size-plate it compares portion size to everyday objects.
Buy a calorie book. Or use a site like http://myfitnesspal.com. They have a huge database of food w/associated calorie count. You can track your food and activity level with them. I really love this site and it's FREE to use.
If you want a friend on there, I'm jeri30. I really need to start the using site again. It's been a while. When I was tracking my food and activity level, I was losing weight. Stopped = weight gain and minimal weight loss.
Try to eat healthy. Just exercising won't take it all off. It's very hard to exercise enough to counteract a big, calorie-laden diet. Only elite athletes get that privilege/joy in life of consuming 8,000 calories a day. :( And, no, don't think you can have that 500 calorie milkshake after your workout just cause you exercised and burned 200 calories. That way lies weight gain.
Remember, you didn't gain it in a day and you won't lose it in a day. If you do have a bad day/meal, just start over at the next meal/day. It's a lifetime process, not a foot race to beat someone to the finish line. If someone was to slash a tire on your car, would you say that the car is finished, useless, why get a new tire, etc? Or would you just replace the tire and continue on? Weight loss is like that. A lot of peoople give up too easily b/c they were "bad" one day. Don't.
Also, keep in mind: Don't let what you want now interfere w/what you want most.
