He's a writer stand-in if you ask me. The closest thing original fic has to a Marty-Stu. Any fanfic character with his traits would be mocked comprehensively.

He'd probably be called a weak/poor character as well. I mean, sure people are flawed and a good writer can make this point. But the problem with TBBT is I feel he isn't being presented as flawed, hence he can make Penny feel like crap about not being ready to say "I love you" and wanting to take things slowly but then when Leonard pulls all the shit he does, we're meant to root for him?
