It's a thing in America. I don't get it, but it is perfectly "normal" these days to go out in public wearing fleecey flannel or cartoon-print pajama pants as if they were outside clothes.

I mean, when I was in college, you saw a lot of "I just rolled out of bed" kids do it. But these days, no, lots of folks just...walk out in that.

At which point you usually just say a thank you that at least they're wearing pants and hope they don't pay you with boob money.*

*Also, some women, usually of the larger or more well-endowed variety, frequently keep things like cellphones and loose bills tucked into their shirt and held their by the force of their breast. Sometimes they use the, ahem, natural front pocket, but usually I see it just shoved in the side there.

oh, that explains a lot

I've honestly never seen that outside of american shows/movies, and didn't know it was an irl thing as well!

Well, it's not just an American thing... when my grandfather was at Cambridge (so in, like, the thirties?) he would walk down the street to the corner shop in his pyjamas, slippers, and dressing gown, and was by no means the only student to do so.

Then again:
a. That was the thirties and therefore not the same
b. This was back when students weren't actually expected to be self-sufficient and the Cambridge porters and bedders kind of waited on the students hand and foot
c. It was fucking Cambridge and they gave (/give) zero fucks.

Yeah, I'd say there's a smidgeon of difference between walking around in a dressing gown (and oh, college students, they've never really been bastions of fashion) and going around town in the Family Guy pants you got at Wally World.

Does give a rather hilarious mental image, though.

College trends can always extend to "everyone" trends pretty easily. Plus it's always a thing that what is acceptable to wear in public changes as time passes.

Like my Grandmother ranted to me about how she doesn't like that jeans became a trend because to her, jeans are clothes for farming and not things you wear outside of that. You will never see her in jeans, only slacks.

What's wrong with boob money, though? My sister-in-law started carrying her cash and cell that way after being pick-pocketed twice because she figured it was one place no one was gonna steal from unnoticed. Granted, she keeps her stuff tucked under the strap more than in the cup.

It is creepy as balls. It's the same as someone coming up to me and handing me the card that they held in their mouth two seconds ago because their hands were full of cellphone and book. I get that it's convenient. But it's also gross. Seriously, just gross. Because other people have to deal with that.

Your cellphone, fine, keep it where you like. It just looks trashy as hell, but hey, at least I don't have to touch that.

This. as someone who used to somewhat-frequently accept boob money, It's not really something that thrills the cashier when you reach into your shirt to pay for your items. :\ At least in a wallet or purse it's not getting (possible) body sweat soaked into it.

Not to mention, why on earth would you want money rubbing against your skin for an extended period of time? At least when handling money you can wash your hands more easily. For your boob's sake, ladies. Money is super filthy.

Every time I've accepted boob money while working, it's been all sweaty and gross, and it's really awkward watching a woman reach her hand down the front of her shirt and rifle around in there.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-13 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Boob sweat's what's wrong with it and the awkwardness of watching the lady fish it out. It's only slightly more hygienic than carrying it in your underwear. If I have to resort to stashing cash in my bra, I make sure to take it out long before I get to the register.

I used to work near the beach in summer, so usually the customers were pretty sweaty. It's really awkward and gross when someone hands you a bill drenched in sweat, be it from their boobs, or their sneakers or worse. Just don't hand people things covered in your bodily fluids, it's not right.
