Can't speak for the above poster, but to me Sheldon has always been a rather flat character. Unless his mother is involved he really doesn't do much. His function is to either be a walking punchline or to spark off some mess that will force the other characters to do #plotfunction to resolve.


After a while Sheldon's wackiness all blends together. He isn't as creepy as the other guys, but then he isn't really a main character in the same way they are either. He's never proactive in anything, even in the "Sheldon"-episodes. The protagonists in those are either Amy or Mary Cooper.
