A. I'm surprised this had a fandom
B. People move on to new things that also have a potential for sequels, television shows, books....

Anime carries the connotation of Japanese animation in English.

And the first Dreamworks flick was Aladdin. That set the standard for that kind of movie that would follow.

lol like DW could make a movie half as good as Aladdin.

Unless something turns into a classic, most movie fandoms have a limited lifespan because really, how much can you do with a 2-3 hour movie? And how much will you care years later?

Eeeyup, and if there's not a whole lot of expanded universe material to go off of, there's not much you can do.

And since this is tangentially related, I think the Lorax fandom is just now dying down, I can't be sure.

Considering a lot of the fandom shipped the blond kid and the black haired kid (whose names escape me at the moment), I'm glad it's dead.

Also, Dreamworks anime? What does that even mean?

Yeah, I'm wondering about the criteria for that claim, too...

Wilbur was the dark-haired kid, Lewis was the blond.

I thought people left this fandom a long time ago?

And why are you calling it a 'Dreamworks movie despite not being Dreamworks'? The sentimentality is all Pixar/Disney style (I don't mean that as an insult btw).

(Anonymous) 2013-03-15 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
Meet the Robinsons wasn't Pixar, though. Just Disney.

Yeah I know. I meant Disney or Pixar, not Pixar*Disney as in the unified name they use on Pixar movies.

I don't see how this was Dreamworks-ish, but I get missing the love it got.

I like this movie and would respond to your secret but I'm too distracted by trying to figure out what you meant by "DreamWorks anime."

OP, do you mean it started as a Dreamworks film, but then ended up being made by Disney? Or do you mean it has all the qualities of a Dreamworks film, yet it was made by Disney?

I haven't watched it, and had to google the names of the two characters mentioned above to ID it. It's Meet the Robinsons, if anyone else is wondering.

Could you please explain the phrase "Dreamworks anime"? I feel like I missed a fandom buzzword memo...
