Not just the last two - from the moment Donna left, he started to rapidly head down that road. He was still more or less likeable in The Next Doctor, and Planet of the Dead, but you could see him heading down the path that would culminate with The Waters of Mars.

Yeah. I think that was intentional though. And idk. It could have been executed a bit better, but the specials were kind of like... Ten on a downward spiral because he'd isolated himself, and then it culminates with him dying/regenerating to save Wilf and then going on a goodbye tour of all his friends.

Could have been done better, but I see what the show was trying to accomplish.
