they're swimmers, they don't need legs

but yeah, my first reaction was "what the fuck is with lefty's lats... wait, he's probably the flyer, never mind, completely legit anatomy."

wait...you don't need legs when you're a swimmer? Or is it depends on what type of swimming (style?) you do?

Swimming in general builds very lean muscle, and with the relatively even distribution of work, it's not uncommon for a swimmer's legs to look somewhat underdeveloped with regards to muscle mass.

Butterfly uses a lot of core and upper body muscle, and that's where all your power comes from; while you can build the legs, the ideal is for them to be lean and flexible to carry through on the kick to keep you moving fluidly through the water. Breaststroke probably uses the most legwork out of all the strokes, since they need to be powerful enough to propel you forward during their part of the stroke cycle. Backstroke and freestyle ideally have short, rapid kicks, which mostly counterbalance the weight they create so your center of gravity is more towards your head (the closer it is to your hips, the more likely you are to sink them and ruin any hydrodynamics); there's certainly no harm in building up the legs, but the majority of the power comes from the arms. (I did distance freestyle and it actually took me a while to even get up a decent 6-beat kick, even though my times were still pretty stellar without it. I still never had much leg power, and I sucked ass at running, but I was one of the best freestylers on my team in SoCal.)

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me! :)

...please tell me I'm not the only one trying to figure out their relay positions now ;_;

I think Tsun-kun is probably the freestyler, since that would be the ideal position for the MC as it's the last leg. Given the suits, Shorty-kun is probably the breaststroker (lolwut), which makes Tall-kun the backstroker (though those two swapped could possibly fit, I guess).

omg I feel like such a nerd /crawls off

HAHA this is the first time I'm ever seeing this, but I'm glad/surprised I'm not the only one who called him Tsun-Kun.
