I think you're confusing the actor with the characters.

I don't think so -- the actor may be perfectly happy, but if he's not on a show where his character smiles, OP gets no smiles.

I do feel like he's kind of slumming at this point - in fact, I feel that most of the actors are slumming at this point, with where the show's gone in terms of quality. But they're all drawing a good paycheck and that's nothing to scoff at. I'm sure if he wanted to be somewhere else he would be.

But he is an amazing actor, isn't he? I really love watching him and I hope he does some cool stuff when CM drags itself to a final close.

Well obviously it's not totally accurate, some of the leaps they make in order to get closer to their subject are truly...inspired...but it's an hour show. Shortcuts are necessary and creative license is everything.

I mean, I work in the prison system and whenever I watch the episode of Angel: The Series where Angel visits Faith in PRISON, I just want to laugh and laugh. But I don't. Because it's TV.

I know. The man is adorable when he smiles, and he hardly ever gets to do it on CM. I love his character though!

Hotch deals with pretty horrifying things on a daily basis.

And then a couple of truly horrendous events happens to him in the fifth season.

He doesn't have a lot of reason to smile. But on the rare occasions he does? It means that much more.

And really, NONE of them smile all that much. Maybe Penelope. But not by much.

I've only been watching this show off and on since the little sister has developed an obsession with it, and I couldn't figure out why that one guy looked so familiar.

Like everyone else said, the character is not the actor.

However, he got nailed for a pretty horrifying drunk driving incident recently, during which he had to be wrestled to the ground by 5 cops:

He actually drove through a physical roadblock into an area that had been cordoned off because there was an evening marathon going through there. He could have killed someone and he got off on a plea deal, which pisses me the hell off. Looking at that, he's either really unhappy or incredibly entitled - or both.

I've seen icons and screencaps and had this exact same reaction. I actually gaped at the screen the first time I did so because he looks so different. But I mostly save my hopes for him having things to smile about on CM. (I have no strong feelings about his girlfriend, but I hope she never ever ever gets so much as a hangnail, or breaks up with him, or anything to make him unhappy. And Jack. The writers better leave Jack the hell alone. Pile the angst on Reid if it has to go somewhere.)
