Aww, that does suck. I mean, I can see where it would be easy to make a character like her, since her design is pretty simple. Was it just a princess with burning hair that you made? Or were there other similarities?

The character design is pretty simple, and princess + elemental imagery isn't exactly the most unique thing in the world. It's not your fault, OP; you didn't do anything to feel bad about. I'm sorry it caused an embarrassing situation for you, though. :(

Just because someone had a similar idea as you doesn't make your idea any less yours.

Also, princesses are everywhere in literature since forever and fire elementals aren't unheard of either.

Ice/Snow Queens are also pretty common. And a candy kingdom? That's been done.

I think you should embrace your OC and do something awesome with her.

PS - you wouldn't happen to have a link to that random generator, would you?

I think you're fine. It's a fairly simple design that I could easily see others coming up with in doodles under "burning princess". Sorry that it's created this embarrassment association, but you really have nothing to feel bad about!

Flame Princess' design isn't so amazingly unique that no one else would have thought of something similar on their own. Don't worry about it, OP.

It sucks when something like that happens and you have no way to prove you didn't steal the idea and people might accuse you of having done so, or at least assume you were heavily inspired by the show. In any case, I wouldn't worry about it too much and use Burning Princess for other things if you want. If people try to call you out on it, just tell them the story. If they don't believe you, well, what can they do about it?

When I was in high school, I doodled a "Fire Queen" that looked a lot like the Flame Princess.

I worry about this a lot, coming up with fantasy characters. One of my main protagonists is an ice guy, and I feel horribly unoriginal with the likes of Ice King, Jack Frost, and Queen Elsa from Frozen out there currently.

I try to tell myself recurring characters and themes happen because of universal appeal, rather than lack of creativity.

For the record, I think Flame Princess is uninspired. I'm sure OP's sketch was cuter.

Happens to me all the time. I'll have a character design or idea stashed away, and later it turns out there's an established version or one that's being introduced and I'm all, "FUCK gotta rewrite and head back to the drawing board :("

Simple designs are simple. It's really easy to stumble upon the same basic design, if working from the same basic premise.

I once designed a superhero character whose costume was a star field with white gloves and boots. Later on, I read some 80s Legion of Superheroes stories. v_v He was even named Starboy for freak's sake. (Totally different power set, though.)
