A few days back, a song popped up on the radio while I was driving that had the chorus "Welcome to the New Age" as well as a part in which it sounded like "I need a waktu, I need a waktu". I was completely gobsmaked and for a moment I thought that some Western rapper had intentionally put Malay words into the song as a joke instead of just me mishearing it.

Now I found out that the lyric was "I'm radioactive, I'm radioactive".

Whoops.

So F!S, any songs you all have misheard?

When I first heard "Is This Real?" by Lisa Hall in the movie "Practical Magic" I thought the lyrics said "Black, blue, bold, love". I liked it and listened to the song a whole bunch of times and sang along, then I looked up the lyrics. I thought it was an interesting description of a gritty, powerful, inescapable and obsessive love.

I was completely shocked to learn it was actually "Flesh, blood, bone, love", which sounds a lot more like creepy, arcane-ritual obsessive love. I still like the song though.

Oh, Radioactive by Imagine Dragons?

Hospital Beds I always thought the small part in the song was "Vietnam, fish and chips, Italian opera" (2:27) but looking it up later it's actually "fishing trips"

The first time I heard "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", I was very confused as to just what "poisoned rationality" was.

ME TOO!!!

And I thought it WAS "poisoned rationality" until two seconds ago when I saw this and had to go look it up. Huh.

It didn't make sense, but a lot of their lyrics are weird, so I never really thought much of it.

There's a line in "Middle Of The Road" by the Pretenders that I always thought was "I'm standing in the middle of life with my pants behind me."

Turns out it actually goes "with my plans behind me." I like my way better tbh.

Your version is definitly the cooler, more interesting one! :)

I always thought it was "Strong man, strong man---STRONG!"

but um, it's really

"Stroke me, stroke me--STROKE!"

Little Red Corvette - for ages, I had no idea what Prince was saying in the line "little red corvette" despite the name of the song. I thought it was something like "feel it coming."

"Roses are red" by Aqua. The correct line is "violets are blue", not "my lips are blue". Embarrassing.

I only recently realized that it's "Our man Jack / Is king of the pumpkin patch" rather then "Almond Jack / Is king of the pumpkin patch" (Nightmare before Christmas).

I was still a bit floored when I realized that Kelly Clarkson was not singing about how we belong to Canada.

Everyone belongs to Canada! >:P

There was a common one that I fell into before I looked up the actual lyrics - it's "socially unacceptable" not "sexually unacceptable."

At least back then, I could tell who were the ~edgy~ emo-fad teenagers after I found out the real lyrics. Really? You think you're a fan? THEN LOOK UP THE LYRICS, LOSER.

In "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East, I thought for a long time that it said "shave my wife", but it turns out it's actually "save my life".

One time I mentioned to my dad that I used to think it was "shave my wife" and his response was "well, that fits with the next line", which was hilarious since he has pretty much the least dirty mind of anyone I've ever known and making that type of joke is completely out of character for him.

I actually really like that song, too. The Moog part is pretty cool

Phil Collins' "In the air tonight" played a lot on the radio when I grew up, and for the longest time I thought it was about how Collins had been waiting for "the snowman" for all his life (Oh Lord), rather than "this moment". I still think my version is more interesting.
