Eh, the abuse/rape/etc in the fics probably has very little to do with anything that happens in real life so much as people getting their kink on *and* the way the relationship between Haytham and Conner was portrayed. Like other's have said, it wasn't a healthy relationship [of any type] and even if it were to take that particular turn I can't see how it would become anything that wasn't abusive [with Haytham being the abuser because well...I can't see Connor knowingly abusing someone he was with, and I *can* see Haytham taking advantage of someone - and not being shy about using abusive tactics to get his own way.]

I'm not saying I like it - that kind of thing isn't really my cup of tea and I wasn't overly fond of either character, bit I can see why it struck so many people that way.

I'm sorry you don't like how popular it is, and it really does suck that other pairings are getting ignored to that extent...but that sometimes happens in fandom for better or worse.
