Gadget "disasters" (first world problems yay)
I rooted my Nook Touch this week. It worked perfectly! I got all the features I wanted, and it solved 98% of the annoyances I have with the device.
Then I found out that the last upgrade to the stock firmware fixed the remaining 2% that annoyed me. (Limitations in the built-in dictionary.)
Somehow in my attempt to put it back to stock so I could upgrade it, I broke it. Like, physically. The USB/charge port is kaput. Other than that it still works great, at least until the battery dies.
So, who else has managed to brick a gadget recently?

In the past I've had the Nook Color and the Nook Tablet, and rooted both of them. They both work great as tablets once they're rooted, but the stock reader tends to lose functionality. Both times I had to load a 3rd party ereader app from an app store to get the reading experience back to a good level.
The stock nook app and most of the 3rd party apps do a great job with resizing fonts in epubs. I've only read a couple of PDFs on a nook, and don't remember if that was user friendly or not.
For info on rooting the newest non-eink nooks, try XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=2034
There's bound to be some reviews of PDF reading on nooks on the B&N forums: http://bookclubs.barnesandnoble.com/t5/NOOK-Central/ct-p/NOOKCentral
I can tell you that a regular tablet, or a rooted nook, is more likely to give you a good reading experience for PDFs, just because you'll have so many PDF reading applications to choose from.
