Seriously?

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 07:48 pm (UTC)(link)
What? Naturally SP has a fandom! We even have a Bigbang. Also Stan/Kyle=OTP.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
da

Which always saddened me as BFF pairings leave me cold and I am far more intrigued by one-sided Cartman/Kyle hate shipping. I never get what I want with the fandom favorite OTP. XD

na

I don't usually like BFF pairings either, but stan and kyle have had enough conflict between them that I still find them interesting.

I'm surprised it's still on and the fandom is still active but that's just because I personally lost interest in it.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 07:58 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know why anyone is surprised when something that's at least somewhat current has a fandom.

To be honest I flat out assume everything has a fandom until proven otherwise.

This.

If I could ever find some good drama or dark fic and not just stupid weeaboo shipping fic, I'd be all over that.

I don't know quite know what you mean when you say the show is too comedy focused to have good characters. It's a good, fairly rounded show with complex characters, imo. Yeah, it's a comedy, but it does have its dramatic and dark moments as you mentioned. Yeah, sometimes they get retconned or forgotten, but unreliable canon has never impeded fandom before.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
this

finding what the fandom was like on deviantART was a :0 moment

(Anonymous) 2013-03-17 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
It's really old but I'd recommend this: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/2566886/1/Increasingly-Improbable-Events

It's basically Kenny and all his thoughts about dying constantly, written before the Mysterion arc. I was pleasantly surprised at how dark it is considering it's about South Park. And no shipping whatsoever.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 08:07 pm (UTC)(link)
that's because you're a dumbass who thinks fandom is the existence of fanfic, not the existence of fans

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
That depends on your definition of Fandom.

I know many sport teams that have tons of fans, but I wouldn't consider it a fandom, for once.

This is pretty much how I feel about Hetalia.

I took a look at it and decided that it was a good funny comic.

Then I discovered the fandom, and its sheer size and eagerness sort of... dumbfounded me.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
What gets me is how most of fan art is anime.
cloud_riven: Close-up of an open-mouthed piglet! Is it recoiling? Or side-eyeing? Maybe saying, "HEY YOU TWO SHOULD KISS"? Mystery! (eeeeeeehhhhhh)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2013-03-16 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I shouldn't be surprised really, but I'm constantly surprised at how angsty the art and fic is. I can't even read the shippy fic.

it's all so different from the tone of the show I can barely tell SP is the source material orz

One of these days though I'll try again.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-17 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
there is South park fic that is far closer to the tone of the show. A lot of it is crossovers.

I couldn't help giggling when I read this because I spent nearly a entire year when I was 15 doing almost nothing fannish outside of consuming all the South Park fic evar, especially long plotty character-fic and darkfic, especially of the Cartman-related variety.

And speaking of which, I still think Cartman is one of the most utterly fascinating fictional characters I've ever encountered in any medium and "Scott Tenormen Must Die" is one of the most mind-blowing half-hours of TV I've ever seen (though I haven't watched the show since 2009, so I dunno if he's been flanderized into boringness or not, or if they ever make episodes that are actual stories anymore).

[personal profile] greenvelvetcake 2013-03-16 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I personally consider Cartman to be one of the most evil fictional characters of all time.

I only started watching the show about a year ago, but after blowing through the entire series, the newer episodes are just as good as some of those in older seasons.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
South Park has always had a huge fandom, as far back as I can remember. Most of it is crappy and either angst-ridden or shmoopy romance, but there are a few (very, very few) gems.

True story: The first fanfic I ever read, as in the very first one ever, was a South Park/X-Files crossover. (In fact, I hadn't watched any South Park whatsoever and didn't even know what it was.) Obviously(?) comedy and not a shippy story. This was in the late nineties, by the way. =)

I was surprised too! I knew it had a lot of fans, but I wasn't expecting, like, legit character development and shipping. O_____o But I was late to the party, as ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-17 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
My first fandom and my introduction to slash! Oh, the memories...

(Anonymous) 2013-03-17 11:04 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying they're not good characters, but since when did only good characters merit fanworks?
