(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)IDK, I don't see Inception as conducive to OTPing, personally. I'm not an A/E shipper but I can see why people can ship them. It's just that I can also see why people would want to ship Cobb/Arthur, Cobb/Saito, Arthur/Ariadne, Yusef/Eames, Cobb/Eames and so on. They all felt like they had equal potential for shipping to me and I've never understood why Inception fandom latched so hard onto A/E and rejected any other pairings.
The overwhelming OTP style of A/E made it not a hostile fandom for me (since again, I don't ship it), but decidedly not a welcoming one. I feel like I'm not alone with that either, given the high volume of people who comment now and again about just not getting why A/E was so popular and how they came out of the theatre shipping X/Y or nothing at all.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)I think Sherlock, a show that would be justifiably OTP-ish to my mind, has more variety going for it than Inception and Teen Wolf.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-16 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)Don't get me wrong, Arthur/Eames was cool and all. But ... seriously? Why is it the only thing there is??

I like/liked a lot of Inception ships, and Arthur/Cobb is my absolute favorite. I liked A/E all right, but it didn't do anything for me, either, and eventually I got tired of it from overexposure.
Like you say, Inception wasn't a hostile fandom to me, but it didn't feel very welcoming, either. I frequently felt like I was missing out a lot because I didn't ship A/E. I felt like activity in the Inception fandom was so centered around A/E that it was easy to be left out or miss stuff.
