Sure you could. Gary Oldman's real voice is nasally, slightly high pitched and street London. He's slightly above average in height at 5'10" but he's at no means a giant. And he's always looked like a buck forty soaking wet. And, yet, like you've said, he is a power house but that is through his acting, his drive and his will. Something, I am sure, he wasn't born with but worked at. You could do the same.

Although he does very well when he's not being quiet as well, so there's that.

Off topic, but I really hope they eventually make Smiley's People.

Gary Oldman said at the Academy Awards that there will be. (I checked his filmography to see if I could find anything. It's an entire Wikipedia page on its own.)

Oh, yay. Gary Oldman is still younger than Smiley, so they have plenty of time to make it.

OP, you may want to watch NCIS: LA sometime.

Because Hetty. Hetty is a short, stocky little woman who absolutely rules any space she inhabits. She has nothing tangible to account for this; it is purely a matter of presence.

Oh, and I share your love of Gary Oldman, btw.

A lot of it is in the body language. Move fast with a forward tilt, like you're a badger on the warpath. I am a short pudgy woman whose voice often gets me mistaken as a young child (especially over the phone), and I mow people down in my way with a smile on my face and them having no idea what just happened.

(This has the unexpected side effect of people saying I have an "attitude problem" because I refuse to be emotionally manipulated and controlled by people used to getting their own ways. Fortunately... I move too fast for them to lock their sights on. >:D)

If you like quiet intensity, you will love Michael Kitchen in Foyle's War. Like Smiley (btw, watch the Alec Guinness one too), Foyle does so with very very little dialogue. He just doesn't need it. He's that good.

I think Alec Guiness is in fact better than Gary Oldman in the role, but Oldman is great, and should have won that Oscar.
