Could you elaborate? I've only been in the Sherlock fandom for a few weeks now and everything seems pretty nice. There are occasional fights with Elementary fans, but it all seems pretty tame. Everyone who's like, omg, the Sherlock fans are exploding, I'm like, um, they posted a funny picture. Not seeing any "exploding."

As for insane, the Tokio Hotel fandom wins, hands down.

Among other things, getting really pissed after Downton Abbey beat their show for some award and retaliating by trying to flood the opposing fandom's tumblr tag.

...except that the people coordinating the attack weren't paying enough attention to the spelling and the majority of the spam got posted to #downtown abbey where it didn't actually bother anyone.
