Cafes can have their own special spins but in essence a latte is your espresso, steamed milk, and a small layer of milk foam on top. Any flavors you add go in first or between the espresso and steamed milk.

I'd try any recipe/directions you find on a cafe website. Or just walk into a cafe on a slow day and ask a barista. I'm sure you could find one nice enough to show you. A lot of us love chatting with customers. And you might even make a new friend :)

soo I live in Korea, and they're simultaneously like "YAY COFFE" and "lol how do you coffe, idgaf"

and the other day I ordered a latte and they made it

in a microwave

Do chai lattes have espresso in them then?

Nope! Chai lattes are just your chai tea brewed with steamed milk, although depending on the cafe they might be using a sweetened chai powder over a tea bag/leaves.

Tea lattes generally don't have espresso unless you ask for it if that's your thing.

What they're thinking of is a DIRTY chai latte ^^

Nope; in a chai latte, the espresso is replaced with chai tea. 'Latte' means 'milk' in Italian and so refers to the milk in the beverage.

Apparently it's a common tourist's mistake to order a "latte" and, of course, be served a glass of milk rather than the caffè latte you wanted. =)

Catching up on fandom secrets so comment is old, but this explains so much why I always get asked to clarify if I want a cafe latte or a latte. I even worked as a barista for a few years and this just went right over my head until your comment.
