Rule #1: Google always lies.

hehehe

It took me frakking forever to learn the difference between them. There's the caffe macchiato, which is espresso with a teeny bit of milk or foam, and the latte macchiato, which is steamed milk with a teeny bit of espresso (but not as much espresso as a caffe latte. CONFUSION, MUCH??). Around where I am (Pa, USA), people use macchiato when they want the latte macchiato. I actually can't remember someone who ordered a caffe macchiato and wanted an actual caffe macchiato.

While technically you are correct, I will point out that what is pictured above is what Starbucks calls a "caramel macchiato." It's vanilla syrup and steamed milk, "marked" with espresso, not stirred, then topped with foam and caramel sauce. It's quite tasty, but it's definitely not a macchiato. I've seen customers try to order a "large macchiato" at other shops and then get either very embarrassed or very angry when the baristas try to clarify what exactly they're asking for.

The worst, though, is when people walk into a coffee shop that isn't Tim Hortons (hi, Canadian here!) and order an "ice capp." Just... There are so many facets of confusion there, it's kind of horrifying.

Heh. I'd be pissed if a barista gave me a latte macchiato when I ordered a macchiato. Luckily I've never had that happen.
