Granted, the 100$ price tag that that unattractive collection of polygons and horrid translation gathers now is appalling. Even though it's my favourite game, I can't stand the price people are selling it at.

But you can get it off of an emulator. I know people who have it on that, so if you really want to play it, that's the easiest way to go.

But god knows even though I own a copy in great condition, I would love if they would remake just the graphics and retranslate it. It would be fantastic if all the people who are scared away by the translation and graphics could actually play the game.

And I can't fault them. I mean, I's laugh if someone told me now to play a game where I could count the number of polygons on a character on my fingers, and where the translation A: tries to get you killed on the first boss battle ("Attack while it's tail is up!") and B: manages to somehow kill a character that wasn't dead.

The only problem is that if a remake got released, it'd probably be so different from the original in terms of plot (given all the stuff they've tacked on with Compilation) that it'd be like the newer fans playing a different game entirely. Not going to get into which version is better, since that's all opinion, but it'd create an even huger fandom rift than there is now, I think.

Exactly. That's why I'd like a remake that consisted entirely of new graphics, voices, and a translation, but by god, the last thing I want is one-winged Gackt in the original game. (I don't care what anyone says, he's the Jar Jar of FFVII)

I'm waiting for the FFT port and the IV remake to judge whether or not Squeenix is even capable of remaking popular games without butchering them. Even still, VII is like their favourite game to to raep canon with, so they could just bend it over and make it take it just because they felt like it.

It seems like they've picked up an entirely new canon with all the new stuff. I really doubt they're capable of making a straight-FFVII remake that isn't compilation nowadays, which is really, really sad, as back in the day, I would have cried in joy at the thought of an FFVII remake. D:

I mean, the least they could do is make sure the new canon fits in with the old, and they've been disrespectfully and grossly bad about that so far, so... :/ It's hard for me to like the new stuff.

I decided somewhere around one-winged gackt that they were not only trying to irritate fans, that they were actually trying to balance a precise combination of throwing the awful new shit at fans to piss them off, then placating them with nostalgia.

I pick and choose canon from the Complication. I mean, I think Dirge had some bullshit timeline that listed Lucrecia as having died when Sephiroth was 7 or something.

I think some of the people writing the Complication have played the original game as much as the new fans have.

Word on that. Apparently, the new narrative says that Cloud was great with swords but bad with guns and that he fought alongside Zack in SOLDIER? Last time I checked, the whole point of Cloud's inferiority complex was that he never made it to SOLDIER because he wasn't skilled enough for it, and the last time I checked, it was the ShinRa grunts (like Cloud) who used guns while the SOLDIERS (like Zack) used swords.

Arghakjs

Oh, GOD, Dirge. And how it apparently completely forgets about Gast while giving Vincent some scientist dad WTF? (I haven't had the uh... stomach to play it. D:)
