I must agree to an extent there. FF7 was never my drug of choice, for me it was FF8 and GOD did I try to play the game - but I am not an RPG gamer and never will be.

My idea of a buttload of fun is Cascade Tetris. I used the walkthrough manual like a surrogate bible, STILL fucked it up, and ended up letting my boyfriend of the time play through several of the boss battles for me because I was so bad at it.

I TRIED to play FF8, I loved the story and characters so much that I fought with it until I couldn't stand to look at it. Then I got a friend who had played to tell me how it ended, I read up on everything I could about it so that I could get at least a passing understanding, and I enjoyed the fandom as much as I could without ever having finished the game or really played very far.

I don't think being unable to finish playing a four-disc long RPG should make me a crappy fan of said RPG's plot and characters just because I gathered my knowledge a different way.
