Re: Is the risk of serious/permanent injury worth doing something you love?

I mean, people sky-dive. If something goes wrong there, you go splat and die. So even a hobby or passion where you run the risk of chronic injury is safer than that. Besides which, injury is a risk in any sort of sport, exercise, or athletic activity -- and those things are supposed to be healthy for you. So I think if it's something you love, and you're willing to accept the consequences, it's not stupid to refuse to give it up entirely.

However, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take every possible precaution to minimize injury and improve recovery times. And if that means staying off the stage for a few months to give an injury the time it needs to heal completely so you can dance on it again, it's stupid not to do that. A person with a hobby like that should be taking every available precaution to minimize the risk of injury (and re-injury) and make it easier to heal faster, so they can keep participating in their passion without putting their health in greater jeopardy than necessary.

tl;dr: Don't stop dancing, but be smart about it.
