Re: Is the risk of serious/permanent injury worth doing something you love?

I think there's a middle ground here. I definitely wouldn't tell someone to stop dancing forever because they could get hurt, but someone who's already injured and chooses to exacerbate that injury because they couldn't wait for it to heal definitely qualifies as a "fucking moron."

I mean, if it's someone at the end of their career who for some reason has to make a choice between retiring immediately and coming back too soon after their injury for one last hurrah, then I can see it being worth the risk. But if you have years of dancing ahead of you and you want to risk re-injuring yourself and cutting those years short just because you can't wait a few more months, then no, it's absolutely not worth it. If you really love doing something, why wouldn't you do everything in your power to make sure you can keep at it for as long as possible?

This are my thoughts too. There's getting injured and then there's injury that immediately permanently crippling to your ability. I originally thought the question was aimed at more extreme activities that could result in permanent injuries, in which case you can't really blame on the person if they really love doing something. In most physical activities you're going to get injured, but if you're not gonna allow yourself to heal properly, that's more on you than on the activity itself, and my sympathy goes down considerably.

Though who knows, maybe there were other factors that pushed them to rush back into it.
