Re: MOAR HOMESTUCK PANELS
I even enjoy the stylization of the sprites, mostly because I kind of *got* that they were basically super deformed and not truly representative of reality from the get go? Like, I can see WHY some people wouldn't find the average aesthetically pleasing, but to say that HS as a whole is just GRUH SO NASTY is kind of ridiculous
Re: MOAR HOMESTUCK PANELS
Personally I prefer his Hero Mode style panels the best, since they tend to be the ones that are accompanied by the OMG WOW backgrounds/colors. If anything I wish people would stop their hate about the exact way he draws the characters and just look at that COLOR. Seriously, the way he composes backgrounds and color schemes and just the contrast and mix of it all... that's where the mastery is for me.
Like 1:23 in Caliborn: Enter, it's the most simple color-blocked thing ever and yet IT'S SO BEAUTIFUL. When the flash first came out, I seriously played that part over and over again... it was rather sad.
Re: MOAR HOMESTUCK PANELS
I also find the Homestuck art really gorgeous. It's definitely something you need to orient yourself into, but once you do, it's completely worth it. I agree wholeheartedly on the colour composition - maybe I'm biased because I've always liked high-contrast colorful palettes, but I think the way he does it is amazing. I often stop and look at the panels just to admire the gorgeousness.
Another thing I'm a sucker for is recurring visual motifs, and Hussie provides that in spades :) Just the way he transitions in flashes is really visually appealing, as well as the links between all the reoccurring images. And seriously, it's pretty obvious that he's pretty talented as an artist if you just look at all the careful detail in the way he draws, as well as his consistency in things like perspective and proportions. Homestuck is just deliberately stylized in a deceitfully simplistic manner, which confuses some people into thinking it's bad art.
(I say nothing of Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff, because there are no words.)
Re: MOAR HOMESTUCK PANELS
Also, you know, I can tell when the art isn't Hussie's, but it's never thrown me out. I guess that's probably because my brain is like "There are 100249070 different styles, anyway; look at the effect!" but I definitely get where you're coming from about that. It's always had a particularly striking effect on me when he's used guestartists.
