I got really depressed reading ONTD the other day because all of the discussion was so facile. I contemplated joining debate in a few threads, but the overall standard of debate was so poor that it seemed like a waste of time.

But then I went on Tumblr a few days later and ended up defriending a couple of people who were going back and forth with some excruciating meta. (Not anything I disagreed with on principal - it was in support of my OTP - but the sort of painfully stretched analysis and that would make a middle-school English teacher weep.) So it wasn't much of an escape except that I could revel in more pretty pictures and cute gifs.

I don't know if the fandoms I'm in are getting dimmer or just younger or what, but it feels like a really long time since I read any intellectually rigorous commentary. So now I'm just a bitter old hag.
