Is there any sort of free alternative to this game?

Nothing anything like as good that I've ever heard of, I'm afraid. It costs less than a fiver, but I guess that's no help if payment methods are a problem.

I just picked up the full app and the 5k trainer a few days ago on the iTunes store for half off, which made the 5k version only ~$2, I think. So if you're not 100% on it, keep an eye out for a sale!
