There isn't any big unifying fandom to benefit from journal style fansites right now though. Maybe the Bronies, but all the others are a shadow of their selves too. Potter, Doctor Who, Supernatural, they are all on the wane and just not generating the all encompassing appeal they once did. We are all waiting on the next really big thing that is so big we need blogs to dissect it. That is probably where the Bronies are failing, popular as MLP is, there isn't really a depth to it to generate the sort of discussion the other fandoms had.

Personally I blame the collapse of the personal website and the email list for this. People just aren't motivated in the same way as they were when they had to create a site by themselves, or search through a webring.
