I like to think the inconsistencies are on purpose because Deaton takes joy in being mysterious and random. He has bets with himself on who will call him out on it, if ever.

I so wish that was true but one of them has less to do with Deaton and more to do with people like the Hales, specifically Derek, and how they originally acted around him vs. who we find out he is now.

But for anything that can be dealt with him just lying? That I'm totally willing to believe. Ahaha, it would be great if he just has a betting pool with himself and he has two sides that go to different expenses. He decides what to pay for depending on what side wins each bet.
