I dunno, OP, but my adult cat sometimes licks the porch floor, rubs her head all over it, rolls on it, etc., like she's just found the best damned invisible catnip in history.

Took me two years to figure out that she was licking/nuzzling/ecstatic over ant trails. Not the ants, mind; just the ant trails.

I can't even guess what your kittens are slobbering over, but it sounds adorable.
