I don't really think LJ is particularly superior. I just mean LJ is where the most fic is and where the discussion is - at least for the fandoms I'm in - and Tumblr is all sharing pretty screencaps and gifsets and the occasional art, which is an incredibly superficial and empty fandom experience.

And I don't know what fandoms you're in, but I'm glad to fear the wank is so easily partitioned from the rest of the fandom on Tumblr. For the ones I follow, cutting myself off entirely from the wank would mean no longer following people who reblog some of Tumblr's few fantastic things. I've minimized and ignored it, and it is easy to ignore if you refuse to engage - but it's even easier to ignore on LJ (at least in my fandom experiences), and it's much easier to just continue enjoying fandom on LJs and such without having to worry about a barrage of SJWs or Rabid Shippers or whatever chasing after you for something you said or posted or whatever.
