If it makes you feel better, as a reader I get angry on people's behalf when this happens. I may even know which one you're talking about. I'll be like "this looks good but are they so ignorant that they'd pick a title that already has great fic for it? Wouldnt' they check first??" and it makes me not want to read it beacuse of that fuck-you attitude.

It's a very common title--there was already a fic with that name in my old fandom, and there are at least two with that name in my new fandom. I don't think an author has any obligation to avoid using such a common title, although they might just to avoid comparison. (To draw an analogy, there's a good fic in my new fandom called The Alien--I don't think that this title conflicts with the movie called Alien.)

That kinda sucks OP, but if it's a common word or phrase used for titles...well, it happens. Sucky, but can't really expect people to change titles or specify the author all the time (especially if one is a major fandom work that people assume you know. Like Embers in ATLA fandom. Not an uncommon title, but people will assume you meant hat one)

Saying this as someone who just throws a word or two as the title because I hate thinking up titles.

Thank you, I'm glad someone else finds that phenomenon obnoxious as well.

I mean, I know Tumblr is full of hive-minded teenagers, but I especially hate the notion that if you like one of the shows, you must like the other two as well and therefore naturally see the cosmic wonderfulness of Superwholock.

If you dig it, you dig it and that's perfectly cool. But please don't try to force it on everyone else as well.
