I'm not really sure what you're saying. You're using the second fic to motivate writing the first? Or using the first to motivate the second?

1. Writing what you know will get feedback is probably pretty normal and I don't think it's self-centered at all
2. This was really, really hard to figure out how to read...maybe work on that next time?

Dude, fandom is way too harsh on writers who appreciate reviews. Yes, some writers come off desperate or needy, but writing is communication, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to see that communication reach somebody.
