The Sherlock fandom is probably still embarrassed over the "Downtown Abbey" incident.

I feel like it all applies to Sherlock as well. But perhaps the key is that the target audience is older than that of Sherlock, Avengers, Doctor Who and Merlin. Downton is more for family-loving housewives, not for overexcited teens.

The "too many women" doesn't apply to Sherlock. I think target audience is a large factor, though. You'll see Teen Wolf tossed into the mix pretty often, too.

TW has a mostly male cast, fantasy setting.

I think it has more major female characters than SPN or Sherlock.

And? The fandom isn't remotely about them, it's about Derek and Stiles, with a smaller side dish of the rest of the male cast.

DA's cast is still mostly female.

TW is a dickfest sprinkled with, what, three major women. Much more to fandom's taste. Not remotely comparable.

The person in my family who is the most involved in Downton Abbey? My super, super nerdy dad. He is hooked.

I think DA has a complex enough plot and big enough cast that it doesn't NEED crossovers.

And if there were any, it'd be cool to see it crossed over with works that take place around the same time. Like The Great Gatsby--Edith is Tom's mistress instead of Myrtle, Thomas takes the place of Mr. McKee, Sybil and Daisy are neighbors who hate each others guts, etc.

OMG. I now want, with the burning passion of a thousand suns, for there to be a Downton Abbey/Avengers xover where Tony sleeps his way through the house, including poor footman Thomas and Steve sweeps Edith off her feet.

And Thor set Mjolnir down in the kitchen, where all of the servants try to figure out who's worthy of its power. And it turns out to be either Anna, Mrs. Hughes, or Mrs. Patmore.

Downavengerlock would be the best thing ever, just because I love imagining Thor and Watson sitting down to dinner with the Crawleys:

Watson: So, uh, Mr. Odinson, what exactly do you do?
Thor: I wield the mighty power of Mjolnir to protect both Midgard and Asgard from the gravest of threats.
Violet: A knight in shining armor. That must be a lucrative profession.
Robert: We need more of that sort. There are too many cads running around these days, too many women thinking for themselves.
Thor: My friend Lady Sif thinks for herself. I don't believe you'd want to argue with her spear. Or dear Darcy's taser.
Watson: At least he hasn't shot the wall...
