Yes, you are literally the only one. It's so tough to be you, but no one will ever understand this because you are literally the only person who has ever thought that in the history of the whole wide world.

/pet peeve: easily falsified rhetoricals disingenuously posed by people who HAVE to know that their comment is basically totally ridiculous and wrong, even if framed as hyperbole

hm I guess what I was trying to do was invite people to discuss it with me, rather than just commenting on the current secret. I'll do it differently next time.

nayrt

The ayrt's reasonable and civil reply makes your comment look like a major dick move. Maybe think twice before blasting random people with your pet peeves.

I guess.

It's still really irritating, though, when someone asks "am I the only one who thinks--" and then proceeds to state some very non-controversial opinion in a place where it's virtually guaranteed that everyone who replies will pretty much agree with them. I mean, "the obsession with classifying everyone's personal opinion is very sad" is clearly an opinion that THE VAST MAJORITY of fandomsecrets followers will COMPLETELY AGREE WITH. So much so, that anyone who actually bothers to disagree will probably presumptively be called a troll, even though we all know that people who actually are are that dickish do in fact exist and come to their dick opinions through honest-to-god dickbaggery.

I guess I could have stated my opinion in a far less snarky way cuz you're right, the anon I was replying to seems nice and reasonable enough. But it wasn't really personal. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back and I bet that they probably DO understand what was so annoying about phrasing their opinion that way, too. Even though they weren't saying it so as to to establish some kind of condescending moral superiority, it still kind of sets the stage to invite all subsequent responses to take a tone of coddling reassurance: "oh no, you're not the only one, don't worry about it, it's okay." So. Annoying!!!

Anyway. I guess I am woman enough to apologize to that anon for taking such a needlessly snarky tone, but I'm not going to apologize for my annoyance, or for stating my annoyance out loud. Even nice well intentioned people can use lazy manipulative forms of rhetoric sometimes, either because they just weren't thinking about the implications or they felt insecure about stating such a non-controversial opinion for some reason. BUT THAT IS WHY THIS IS A PET PEEVE OF MINE AND WHY IT ANNOYS ME SO MUCH.

I mean, am I really the only person who feels the need to vent about pet peeves from time to time?

LOL HA HA POINT MADE (I hope?)

...wow.

I think that you perhaps look far deeper into casual turns of phrase and become far more offended by them than is entirely rational. Manipulation and passive-aggression are not lurking around every corner.

Ha ha. Maybe.

Coincidentally, one of my pet peeves is seeing somebody say "I guess I'm wo/man enough to apologize," because it almost always seems to sort of cancel out any effect of actual apology. I've seen people be like WELL, I'M THE BIGGER MAN SO YOU CAN SUCK IT, PUNY HUMAN way too often, like creating this facetious moral air is going to somehow going to ACTUALLY make them better.

Which, I'm not saying that you did, but hey, conversation about phrasepeeves!

Considering how many times fat people are lambasted on f!s for existing while fat or being "ugly", and how many times people have personally been called ugly or fat (with the implication that fat = bad, ugly), sight unseen, because they dare to stand up against that shit.. I wouldn't say "the obsession with classifying everyone's personal opinion is very sad" is a universal opinion, and it especially is not such in American culture, where (mostly) women are shown at every possible opportunity that they need to lose weight, fix their skin, fix their hair, fix everything about them or they aren't "pretty enough" or "good enough" and have no value in the world.

So to say your irritation is misplaced would be kind of an understatement.

da

Looks like your pet peeve is getting away from you. Might wanna go catch it and take it back to pet peeve class, teach it some good behaviours then let it out for walks when you reckon you've got it under control.

Yeah I think you're really overreacting here. And your first comment was uncalled for and rude. just my $0.02
